History

1904
Beck Electrical Insulation GmbH was founded in the year 1904 as a private company by Hermann Josef Beck in Berlin. Beck was the first company which specialized totally on varnishes and resins for the electrical insulation to be supplied to the emerging electrical industry in Germany.

1936
1936, the son, Dr. Hans Joachim Beck took over the management of the company which developed an excellent reputation under the name "Dr. Beck". In 1939 resins where developed and systhesized in the factory in Berlin. This was the bases for the know how of the manufacture of special resins for the electrical industry.

1948
The end of World War II and the nationalisation of the factory being located in the eastern part of Berlin was a distribution for the company.

1951
1951 a completely new factory started up in Hamburg-Rothenburgsort, where the company is still based today.

1956
The introduction of unsaturated polyester resin (UP-resins) for the impregnation of electrical coils was a pionieering achievement which is still state of the art today. This technology enabled productivity improvements for our customers. Further expansion was done in 1956 - 1957 with the foundation of subsidiaries in India (today Beck India Limited an Altana Electrical Insualtion Company) and in the UK.

1962
With the introduction of esterimides in wire enamels in 1962 Beck proved its ability in innovation for liquid electrical insulation. Magnet wires produced with these highly-temperature resistant wire enamels are still the backbone on the technology for high performance electrical machines.

1967
Dr. Hans Joachim Beck retires from the business. The company was taken over and continued by BASF AG as a production plant of BASF Farben + Fasern AG.

1995
In 1995 a total reconstruction of the production facilities was completed. The new resin and varnish factory produces with the most modern technologies fulfilling all environmental standards.

1997
Beck was the first company world-wide developing and producing monomer free, low emission up-resins under the name Dobeckan MF for the impregnating of electrical coils. This was an innovative and essential contribution to the environmentally-friendly processing.

1998
Following a reorganisation within BASF Coatings AG, Dr. Beck was taken over by Schenectady International Inc. New York, USA.
