Manufacturers throughout the United States, and in many industrial communities around the world, have been under increasing pressure to bring their manufacturing processes into compliance with Clean Air Emission regulations.
While toxic air emissions, no doubt, rank as the number one environmental offender in the industrial world, unnecessary energy consumption and the generation of vast amounts of hazardous waste surely follow closely behind. The electrical industry has now been given the opportunity to address these problems with the advent of SW Resins from ELANTAS PDG, INC.. SW Resins are two-component 100% reactive, solventless resins formulated specifically to trickle or roll-through impregnate motor stators, armatures, coils and transformers.
SW Resins facilitate the concepts of Work Cell and JIT manufacturing by making it affordable to provide a coating machine for each production line to gain the many economic advantages of continuous flow production down dedicated lines.
The SW Resins process eliminates the practice of dipping hot parts into volatile compounds with its air-polluting vapors that accumulate onto oven surfaces creating the inevitable hazard. The handling of hot parts presents yet another safety concern, and the heat loss from ovens can contribute to employee discomfort and additional air-conditioning costs.
For many windings this new process requires less than ten minutes, with less than 40 parts in process. There is no time lost waiting for the windings to cool before manufacturing can resume. This reduces in-process inventory, material handling , factory storage space and processing time. For many companies the winding lines can now be effectively joined with the related assembly lines, eliminating long production delays and the complicated task of staging and scheduling at a centralized oven process for multiple assembly lines. For many it will shorten the manufacturing cycle time, improve delivery, and contribute to increasing plant capacity.
It is our belief that every plant now using the high-temperature oven-cure process can benefit from this new technology. Energy savings of over 90% will pay for equipment and the emissions of VOC's will be reduced to meet EPA regulations. The resulting conservation of non-renewable energy sources also reduces the pollution caused by the generation and distribution of power.
